St John's Village: Planning for People

Inspired by the internationally recognised principles of New Urbanism, the estate was conceived around the belief that great communities begin with the spaces between buildings rather than the buildings themselves. Here, streets are not simply routes for vehicles but where daily life unfolds. Narrow, tree-lined roads encourage slower traffic and an easier pace, while parks, gardens and open spaces invite residents to linger, meet neighbours or simply enjoy the outdoors.
The development draws inspiration from the traditional village model, creating distinct neighbourhoods connected by walkable streets and shared public spaces. Homes, shops, healthcare facilities, restaurants and services sit within easy reach of one another, encouraging residents to walk or cycle whenever possible.
Green spaces form an equally important part of the vision. The Arboretum, Allotment Gardens and extensive tree planting provide opportunities for recreation, gardening and quiet reflection while reinforcing a connection with the surrounding landscape.

Importantly, the development was never intended for one stage of life. Young families, professionals and retirees live alongside each other, creating the kind of multi-generational community that has become increasingly rare in modern suburban planning.
Rather than designing individual houses first and hoping a community follows, St John’s Village demonstrates how thoughtful master planning can intentionally create the conditions in which community naturally flourishes.
