You Get To Decide Your Story

by · · Updated · 2 min read

Author, Speaker, and Mindset Strategist, Sandra B Zaca, stands firm that, while we don’t get to decide how our story in life starts, whether it’s woven from a painful childhood, abuse, or trauma, we do get to decide how that story ends, “You get to decide if you will remain a victim or become a victor, you get to choose the story that people will remember and you always, always have a choice,” she shares. From the trenches of survival to the summits of freedom, Sandra has been a passionate advocate for resilience. This is at the heart of her book, Unyielding Strength: A Story of Resilience, published in 2024.

Sandra’s book recounts her journey as a young girl who lived as a refugee in the Congo, endured seemingly insurmountable odds, and fled to South Africa for a better life. She recalls her moments of survival, faced with the harsh realities of displacement and physical and emotional abuse. How can life dish out such extreme pain to one person? But Sandra has learnt to ask more empowering questions, and her journey of survival has led to one of deep healing that she now shares with others.

Sandra’s story has become a balm for anyone who might feel that being resilient is just too painful. It encourages us not to see our pain as our identity, but to let it transform us. “Resilience to me is a lifelong process of becoming anchored in your God-given identity, emotionally mature in your relationships, and faithful in your daily choices, so that adversity transforms you instead of defining you. It is not merely the capacity to survive hardship, but the ability to flourish with wisdom, courage and love in every season of life,” she shares.

Unyielding Strength: A Story of Resilience is for anyone who has experienced the hardships of trauma and pain to the point where they feel broken and destroyed by it. It has been well received, with over 200 copies sold so far and has inspired many who’ve read it to reframe their past and move forward. You can find copies online through Harvard Ink publishers, Amazon, Takealot, or by visiting Sandra’s website. “My message is always the same: you always have a choice; when you find meaning in your suffering, you will never be a victim again. Always remember that you get to decide how the story ends.”
